Sr. Mary Adeline Kurth taught high school and college mathematics for more than 40 years, including seven years at Briar Cliff. She came to Briar Cliff in 1987. She retired from teaching in 1994 and then volunteered to manage the institution's archives and also help in the game-day hospitality room during basketball games for eight years. Kurth also volunteered as a tutor at the Boys and Girls Home Education Center and was the recipient of the 1998 JC Penney Golden Rule Award. In 2002, Kurth left Briar Cliff and returned to Mt. Saint Francis, in Dubuque, Iowa. The Waterloo, Iowa native graduated high school from St. Mary's in 1941. She entered the convent in 1943 and later earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Briar Cliff in 1956. She then earned her master's degree from the University of Santa Clara in 1965.
