Carol Nitzschke-Henrich, the first recipient of a Briar Cliff athletic golf scholarship, was a three-time Io-Kota Conference medalist and all-conference selection. The two-time team captain played on three conference championship teams. As a senior, Nitzschke-Henrich was named to the A.I.A.W. all-state team and was cited as Briar Cliff's most valuable player. A native of Remsen, Iowa, and a 1976 graduate of Remsen St. Mary's High School, Nitzschke-Henrich was twice named to the Iowa Small College all-tournament team. She captured medalist honors at the 1978 Iowa Women's Golf Association District 1 championships, won the 1979 Sioux City Women's Championship and captured the Remsen city championship in 1978, 1979 and 1980. Nitzschke-Henrich was a member of the National Dean's List and was cited by Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She was presented with the 1980 Health, Physical Education and Recreation Professional Service Award and the 1980 Briar Cliff Golf Senior Award.

Nitzschke-Henrich became the first woman voting delegate at the 74th annual meeting of the PGA of America in LaQuinta, California in December of 1990.
