Amado Martinez ('91) was a four-year member of the Briar Cliff basketball program. The Panama City, Panama native was a two-time NAIA All-District 15 and All-Iowa NAIA Conference selection. As a senior, the co-captain earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors and was named the team's most valuable player. Martinez finished his career with 1,917 points and 1,007 rebounds. During the 1990-91 season, he pulled down 328 rebounds, the third-best single-season total in school history at the time. Martinez led head coach Ray Nacke's Chargers in scoring as both a junior and senior and in rebounding for three-straight years. For his career, he averaged 17.3 ppg and 9.1 rpg. His single-game highs were 35 points and 23 rebounds. The 6'8 Martinez helped the Chargers to a four-year record of 94-31, including a 52-8 mark at home, two conference and district titles and a pair of national tournament berths.
Following his graduation, the former Panamanian national team member played internationally for several years.
