Donna Welte-Hirsch was a star in basketball and softball at Briar Cliff. Hirsch was a two-time-all NAIA District 15 basketball selection and led the Chargers in scoring during her junior (16.2 ppg) and senior (20 ppg) seasons. She finished her career as the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,188 career points. Hirsch was also a standout on the diamond, earning MVP honors in 1982 and 1983. In 1982, she received the Best Offensive Player Award, leading the team to a second place finish at the AIAW state tournament and its first-ever regional tournament berth.
