Mario Galvez, a native of Panama City, Panama, completed his career as the state's all-time collegiate scoring leader with 3,215 points. Galvez ranked second nationally in scoring as both a sophomore (30.2 ppg) and senior (32.8 ppg). He averaged 26.4 points per game during his career. Galvez logged one of the most memorable "late night" performances in the history of the NAIA national tournament when he scored 46 points and shot 67 percent from the floor in a 90-86 double-overtime loss to Arkansas-Monticello on March 12, 1986. Galvez earned first-team NAIA All-American honors both as a sophomore and senior. He was a three-time NAIA all-district selection and two-time NAIA National Player of the Week pick. As a senior, Galvez shared the 30th annual Clarkson Award, emblematic of Iowa's best collegiate basketball player, with Jeff Hornacek of Iowa State and Wanda Ford of Drake. Galvez owns the single-game scoring record with 61 points vs. Marycrest on February 7, 1986.
