Pete Groetken began keeping the official scorebook at Briar Cliff in 1971, when the Chargers were playing their home games at the Sioux City Municipal Auditorium. He did that for 12 seasons. When the Chargers moved their home games into the Newman Flanagan Center in 1983, Groetken made the move as well. He then decided to take over security for the BC home basketball games. Groetken attended Heelan High School and played on the basketball team there. He also attended Briar Cliff. Groetken was a captain with the Sioux City Police Department. He is a graduate of the FBI's National Academy and has been named the Optimist Club's Police Officer of the Year. Throughout the years, Groetken has served on several area boards of directors and is active in his church. In his free time, Groetken enjoys watching basketball and playing golf.

With NAIA national tournaments coming to Sioux City, many people have raved over Pete's pot roast, a dish served in the VIP areas stemming from a Groetken recipe.
