Reverend Mr. Frederick P. Karpuk, a 1968 graduate of Bishop Heelan High School and a 1972 graduate of Briar Cliff, participated in both basketball and cross country at the Cliff. Karpuk played for three seasons under Coach Bill Stier before playing his final season under Coach Ray Nacke. He finished his career as one of the school's all-time leading scorers (1,307 points) and rebounder (970). Karpuk received the Chargers' "Epitome of Athlete Award" as a junior. He was named the team captain his senior year.
Karpuk received his bachelor of arts degree in English and was ordained as a deacon by the Diocese of Sioux City in 1985.
