Wendy Hammen-Slaughter ('98) was a four-year starter for the women's basketball program. The four-time NAIA All-Midwest Region selection was a second team NAIA All-American as a junior and a first team All-American as a senior. She was twice named the Chargers' defensive MVP and was also tabbed the squad's MVP as a junior. Hammen-Slaughter finished her career as the school's third all-time leading scorer with 2,066 points. She also finished third in career steals (365), fourth in career assists (321) and fourth in career three-pointers (125). During her four-year career, she led the Chargers to 108-33 record, including a 68-5 mark in her final two seasons as the Chargers led the nation in scoring. She helped Briar Cliff to three-straight regional titles and national tournament appearances. She was named to numerous all-tournament teams, including second team all-national tournament as a junior. She was also part of an unforgettable record-setting 37-1 season in 1996-97. Aside from athletics, she was involved in Peer Advising Leaders and Campus Activity Board.
