Ed Wiltgen graduated from Briar Cliff in 1971. The four-year member of the Charger basketball program finished his career with 1,179 points and 303 rebounds. He earned the Epitome of an Athlete Award from Briar Cliff in 1970. Wiltgen prepped at Bishop Heelan High School, where he played on two state tournament teams. As a senior, the team MVP and metro scoring leader earned first team all-Diocesan, all-city and Major 9 all-Area honors.
Following his graduation from Briar Cliff, Wiltgen spent 35 years teaching and coaching in Wathena, Kan. and South Sioux City, Nebraska. He retired from teaching and coaching in 2010. He coached boys' basketball at South Sioux from 1977 to 1982 and was a longtime girls' assistant basketball coach at South Sioux, helping guide the team to 10 state championships in 19 seasons. He also spent time coaching boys' and girls' golf. Wiltgen earned a master's degree from Wayne State in 1990. He helped start and run the boys' and girls' Jaycee Basketball Leagues and helped organize and coach the South Sioux City Girls' Youth League.
