Denny Wiltgen started keeping the scoreboard clock in 1971 when Ray Nacke became Briar Cliff's head coach. Pete Groetken kept the scorebook at that time and there was no shot clock (but they did have a foul pole!). Wiltgen's ties to Briar Cliff run deep as two of his brothers (Dan ‘69 and Ed ‘71) played basketball for the Chargers and his wife, Suzanne (sister of Larry Sitzmann) was Briar Cliff's first homecoming queen and graduated in 1969. His fondest Charger Basketball memories were the trips to Kansas City to watch the team play at Kuemper Arena in the NAIA National Tournament and also the great rivalry between Briar Cliff and Grand View.
