The Charger baseball team went 2-0 Saturday over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in Mitchell, South Dakota to complete the four-game sweep on the week.
Game one – W, 5-3
After five scoreless innings to start the contest, the Tigers scored the game's first run in the bottom of the sixth to take a late lead. In the top of the seventh,
Cam Riemer led off the inning with a walk followed by a one out double from
Raenan Padilla to put runners at second and third.
With two outs,
Damon Schmid delivered with a two-run single to give the Chargers the lead. RBI singles from
Rance Bryant and
Diego Trujillo put the Chargers up 4-1. A RBI single from
Nico Sall gave BC a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
A two-run blast from the Tigers cut the lead to two with no outs. The Chargers were able to close the door on the Tigers and
Brock Wallace earned the save.
Cade Nelson earned the win after tossing six innings and allowed six hits while recording six strikeouts.
Game two – W, 9-5
With the score tied 2-2, the Chargers took a one-run lead after a Sall solo shot. The Chargers in the top of the fourth would tie the game 5-5 following a run from Bryant and a RBI single from Riemer.
In the top of the eighth, BCU's
Connor Neubeck's two RBI double put the Chargers up 7-5.
Clayton Luett recorded a two RBI double to extend the Charger lead to 9-5.
Brock Saya earned the win on the mound, tossing six shutout innings and allowed just four hits while recording seven strikeouts.
Trujillo went three-for-five with a run scored and drew a walk. Sall finished two-for-four with three RBIs.
The Chargers improve to 21-20 (14-10 GPAC) and will travel to Sioux Center, Iowa this Thursday to take on Dordt. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
