The Charger baseball team split their doubleheader against the Dordt Defenders in Sioux Center, Iowa Wednesday afternoon.

Game one – L, 1-5
Â
The Chargers loaded the bases in the top of the first with two outs following a Cam Reimer reaching base via walk. On the next at bat,
Connor Neubeck was struck by a pitch and the Chargers took a early 1-0 lead.

The Defenders responded with five runs in the bottom of the first to take a four-run lead.

In the top of the third,
Diego Trujillo led off with a double to left field. Trujillo swiped third with two outs to put a runner in scoring position. The Defenders stranded Trujillo at third, forcing a pop fly the next at bat.

In the top of the sixth the Chargers loaded the bases after
Raenan Padilla drew a walk with two outs. The Defenders escaped the jam, forcing another pop fly to end the inning.

Carter Schorg pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run and recorded four strikeouts.

Game two – W, 9-1
Â
Trujillo in game two went a perfect five-for-five with two runs scored.

In the top of the first, a lead off double from Trujillo coupled by a one run single from Bryant gave BCU an early lead. Walks from
Cade Marquardt and
Nico Sall loaded the bases. A two RBI single from Neubeck put the Chargers up 3-0.

The Chargers took a 6-0 lead after the first inning. A RBI double from Riemer in the top of the second followed by a Marquardt RBI single gave the Chargers a 8-0 lead. Sall capped off the scoring with a one run single to center field.

Nick Hays took the win on the mound, tossing 5.1 innings and allowed just one earned run while recording nine strikeouts.

The Chargers move to 21-20 (15-11 GPAC) and will return home for the season finale against the Waldorf Warriors. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
