The Charger baseball team split their opening doubleheader against the Benedictine (KS) Ravens, falling 6-1 in game one before winning 9-3 in the second game.

Game 1 – L, 6-1

A lead off single from
Cade Marquardt setup an RBI double from
Nico Sall to put the Chargers up 1-0 in the top of the second inning.

Sall in his first game with The Cliff went two-for-three at the plate and recorded a stolen base.
Â
Carter Schorg was tabbed with the loss on the mound, after tossing five innings and allowing three runs on five hits while recording five strikeouts.

Game 2 – W, 9-3

In game two, the Chargers scored first again in the top of the second. Sall led the inning off with a single to right field. Sall stole second base and advanced to third on the same play after a throwing error by the Ravens. Marquardt RBI single drove in Sall for the game's first run.

Sall continued to hold the hot hand in the next inning, as he recorded a two-out two RBI single to put the Chargers up 3-1. Marquardt the next at-bat recorded an RBI single to put Briar Cliff up 4-1.

Diego Trujillo added another run after he posted an RBI triple in the top of the fourth.
Jake Chronic and Marquardt recorded RBI's in the top of the fifth to build a 7-3 lead.

Sall went a perfect four-for-four in the contest and scored three runs and recorded three RBIs.

Cade Nelson earned the win on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings and recorded four strikeouts.
Brock Wallace came in relief and recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one hit across 2.2 innings of work.

The Chargers start the season 1-1 and will complete their four-game series against the Benedictine Ravens tomorrow. Game one is slated for 12 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
