The Charger baseball team split their Sunday doubleheader against the Benedictine Ravens, winning game one 9-6 before losing game two 6-5.

Game One – W, 9-6
Â
The Ravens jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Chargers chipped into a lead in the top of the second, as
Rance Bryant crossed home plate following an error from the Ravens. In the top of the third
Cade Marquardt recorded a triple to the left center field gap. Marquardt scored on a fielder's choice after
Jake Chronic placed the ball in play.

An RBI double from
Nico Sall added two more runs for the Chargers in the top of the fourth. The Cliff plated five runs between the fifth and six inning to secure game one.

Johnny Reed took the win on the mound for the Chargers after surrendering just one hit and one earned run while striking out three in two innings of work. Bryant recorded the save after recording four strikeouts in two innings of work.

Bryant also went three-for-three at the plate and drew two walks in the contest.
Diego Trujillo went one-for-four at the plate and led the team in RBIs with three and scored two runs.

Game Two – L, 6-5
Â
Trailing 1-0 after the first, Trujillo got the Chargers on the board with a two-RBI single in the top of the third. Sall in the top of the fourth belted a solo homer to put BCU up 3-1. Sall in the top of the fifth recorded a two-RBI single to extend the Charger lead.

The Cliff gave up five runs in the final inning to fall in game two.

Raenan Padilla and
Damon Schmid recorded hits in the contest.

Nick Hays got the start for the Chargers and tossed six innings while just allowing one run and five hits.

The Chargers move to 2-2 after opening weekend, and will travel to Baldwin City, Kansas to take on both Baker and Jamestown. The Chargers will begin the weekend playing Baker Saturday February 15
th. Game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will take on Jamestown directly after the contest against Baker.
