The Briar Cliff track and field is set to compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships this week in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In total, three individuals and one relay team will represent the Chargers at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
Ben Jefferies has been dominating in the 400-meters during the outdoor season and holds the top time in the NAIA at 46.00 seconds. He set that time at the Drake Relays, where he took second place behind Olympic Gold Medalist Randolph Ross. Jefferies also qualified in the 200-meters with a NAIA 'A' standard time of 21.02 seconds, which ranks seventh in the NAIA. Jefferies set new BC program records and was the GPAC Champion in both events. At last year's outdoor national meet, Jefferies placed second in the 400 with a time of 46.53.
The Charger men's 4x100 team is made up of
Dominic Archer, Jefferies,
Tulsa Janish and
Ryan Kotey. They hit the NAIA 'A' standard and set a new school record at the Concorida Twilight meet where they clocked a 41.02 race. The Chargers time ranks ninth fastest in the NAIA.
Hope Wagner ranks 17th in the shot put, after 'A' standard throw of 13.55 meters at the Concordia Twilight meet. Wagner placed 12th at the NAIA Indoor National Championship meet on March 6 with a throw of 12.8 meters.
Lexus Mosbrucker's mark of 40.57 meters in the javelin at the Wildcat Invite hit the 'A' standard. Mosbrucker's throw also set a new program record and ranks 18th in the NAIA.
