The Charger football team defeated the RV Mount Marty Lancers in the second Catholic Cup Saturday 34-20 in Yankton, South Dakota.

Brock Saya accounted for three total touchdowns and went 17-for-24 passing for 191 yards. He threw two passing touchdowns while rushing for one.

Chase Thomas ran for 68 yards and two scores on 18 attempts.
Kymani Fleurme hauled in seven catches for 101 yards while
Ezra Heiner recorded two catches for 47 yards.
Steven Whiting caught two touchdown passes in the contest.

The Cliff on the opening drive of the contest used a 12-play 73-yard drive capped off by a eight-yard touchdown pass from Saya to Whiting to put the Chargers up 6-0. Saya went a perfect four-for-four on the drive.

The Charger defense held the Lancers to two field goals in the first half.

Before the half closed, the Chargers went on a nine play 53-yard drive capped off by a eight-yard rushing score from Saya to lead 13-6 heading into half time.

In the beginning of the fourth, the Chargers took a 20-6 lead when Saya found Whiting for their second hookup of the contest.

The Lancers would respond with two touchdowns of their own to tie the contest at 20-20 with 9:41 remaining in the contest.

BCU on the ensuing drive would drive 75 yards and burned six minutes off the clock as Thomas' six-yard scoring touchdown would give the Chargers the lead. Briar Cliff would force a quick three-and-out on the next drive and capitalized on a short punt from the Lancers.

Thomas scored his second rushing touchdown of the night, this time a five-yard score to give BCU the two-possession lead.

On the final drive,
Joseph Casarez recorded a sack for a 16-yard loss to push the Lancers behind the sticks. The Chargers would force a turnover on downs to seal the game.

The defense held the Lancer offense to 178 yards and just 96 yards through the air.
Dayton Harrell recorded an interception in the contest and two pass breakups.
Johnny Bauser recorded a sack while
Cameron Cayou and
Phillip Benjamin shared a sack in the contest.
Max Rascon Jr. recorded four quarterback hurries.

The Chargers improve to 3-1 (2-1 GPAC) and will return to Memorial Field next Saturday, as they host the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Homecoming. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
