The Charger baseball team fell 2-6 to the top-seeded Fire of Southeastern University (FL) Tuesday afternoon in Lakeland, Florida.
A string of errors in the bottom of the second turned into four runs for Southeastern. The Fire added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with a home run and a RBI single.
In the top of the ninth,
Diego Trujillo recorded a one-out double to right field to put a runner in scoring position.
Nico Sall capitalized with a two-run bomb over the right field fence to put the Chargers on the board.
Cade Marquardt reached base on an error and advanced to second on the play.
The Fire stranded the runner at second to preserve the victory.
Cade Nelson tossed 4.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits while recording a strikeout.
Owen Lester came in relief and pitched 3.1 innings and allowed zero hits while recording two strikeouts.
Trujillo led the team with two hits while Marquardt, Sall, and
Raenan Padilla each recorded a hit.
The Chargers move to 29-23 overall and will play Abraham Baldwin at 1:30 p.m. CST in Lakeland, Florida.
