The Charger baseball team defeated the Broncos of Hastings Saturday at the Bishop Mueller Complex in Sioux City, Iowa Saturday afternoon.

Game one – W, 8-1
Â
After surrendering one run in the top of the first,
Carter Schorg kept the Broncos off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest. Schorg pitched a complete game and surrendered just four hits while striking out eight.

The Chargers got on the board in the top of the second following a Grant Devececsery RBI double to drive in Cam Reimer. A RBI single from
Damon Schmid gave the Chargers a 2-1 lead.

In e bottom of the third, Riemer opened the game up for the Chargers, a three-run blast to put BCU up 5-1. Briar Cliff added another run in the top of the fifth with a one run single from
Cade Marquardt.

Diego Trujillo added two insurance runs for the Chargers in the top of the sixth with a two RBI double.

Nico Sall, Riemer, and Marquardt each recorded two hits in the contest.

Game two – W, 15-7
Â
Jake Chronic went a perfect five-for-five in the contest with six RBIs and was a double short of hitting for the cycle. Chronic blasted two home runs in the contest.

A two-run blast from Chronic gave BCU the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Sall would launch one over the fence, a two-run shot in the bottom of the third to give Briar Cliff a 4-1 lead.

Heading into the bottom of the sixth and clinging to a two-run lead, The Cliff would take a 9-4 lead capped off by a RBI single from Sall.

Leading 9-7 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Chronic's three-run blast, his second of the contest, put the Chargers up 12-7. The Chargers would record three more runs in the inning to take a 15-7 lead capped off by Reimer's two-run blast.

Sall finished the contest going two-for-three at the plate with four RBIs.

The Cliff move to 15-18 (8-10 GPAC) and will return to Bishop Mueller Complex tomorrow to take on Hastings. Game one is slated for 12 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
