The charger baseball team went 4-0 on the weekend, defeating the Hastings Broncos Sunday at the Bishop Mueller Complex in Sioux City, Iowa.

Jake Chronic this series posted a .923 batting average with 12 hits, two home runs, a triple, a double, tallied seven RBIs, scored nine runs, and stole three bases.

Game one – W,8-7
Â
The Broncos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Chargers quickly answered with a run in the bottom of the first.
Jake Chronic recorded a one out single and advanced to third following an illegal pitch and stealing third. Chronic scored off a wild pitch to cut the lead to one.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Chronic again delivered, this time with a RBI double to cut the lead to one again.

The Chargers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, a Grant Devesery RBI double knotted the game up at 3-3. In the top of the fifth the Broncos scored three runs to take a 6-3 lead.

The Cliff in the bottom of the seventh looked to cut into the lead, as a sac fly from
Cade Marquardt drove in
Rance Bryant to cut the lead to 6-4. A double from
Cam Riemer put runners on second and third with two outs. The Broncos intentionally walked
Diego Trujillo to load the bases. On the final at bat,
Connor Neubeck singled to right field to drive in Chronic and Riemer. A throwing error to home plate allowed
Caleb St. Cyr to dive in and score to give BCU the walk-off win.

Chronic went a perfect four-for-four at the plate with a RBI and two runs scored.

Game two – W, 17-12
Â
BCU started off the contest strong, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Marquardt's two-run blast followed by a two run single from
Raenan Padilla gave the Chargers the early lead.

Tied at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the third, Riemer and Padilla launched back-to-back solo home runs to put Briar Cliff back on top.

The Broncos would take a 10-6 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Chargers would pour it on in the inning, scoring eight runs to regain the lead. A RBI sac fly from Bryant followed by a two-run single from
Nico Sall made it a one run game. A RBI double from Riemer tied the game.

With the bases loaded,
Damon Schmid blasted one over the right field wall for a grand slam and gave the Chargers a 14-10 lead.

The Chargers in the bottom of the seventh scored four runs, a two-run shot from Neubeck followed by a inside the park home run from Schmid.

Riemer finished the contest going four-for-five with two RBIs and scored four runs

The Chargers improved to 17-18 (10-10 GPAC) and will travel to Redfield, South Dakota for a doubleheader against the Jamestown Jimmies this Tuesday. Game one is slated for 1:30 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
