The Charger baseball team dropped their doubleheader to the Lancers of Mount Marty Saturday afternoon in Yankton, South Dakota.

Game one – L, 0-3

After two scoreless innings to open the contest, The Cliff in the top of the third looked to card the game's first run following a lead off single to center field from
Cy Patterson. With one out,
Diego Trujillo recorded a single to left field and the Chargers had runners at first and second. The Lancers were able to retire the side and stranded two runners on base.

The Lancers broke the scoring tying in the bottom of the third following an RBI single. The Lancers carded another run to take a 2-0 lead following a Charger error. Mount Marty carded another run in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to three.

Game two – L, 2-4
Â
Brock Saya got the start for the Chargers on the mound and began the game tossing six shutout innings. Saya recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run in six innings of work.

With the contest scoreless heading into the top of the sixth,
Nico Sall recorded a double with two outs to put the Chargers in scoring position.
Cade Marquardt followed up with a RBI single to drive in Sall.

Mount Marty in the bottom of the seventh carded four runs to take a three run lead late.

With one out,
Raenan Padilla,
Grant Devecsery, and Patterson loaded up the bases quickly after three straight singles.
Damon Schmid recorded a RBI single to cut the lead to two. The Lancers recorded two strikeouts and escaped the tough jam to preserve the victory.

Marquardt finished the contest going three-for-four at the plate. Padilla and Patterson both went two-for-four at the dish. Sall posted two extra base hits in the contest.

The Chargers slide to 10-13 (3-5 GPAC) and will return to Bishop Mueller Complex this Friday, as they host the Tigers of Doane. Game one is slated for 1 p.m. with game two following shortly after.
