The Charger softball team split their Saturday doubleheader in Sioux Center, Iowa, defeating the Mayville State Comets 10-2, and falling to the Saint Mary Spires 5-1.

Game 1, vs Mayville State – W, 10-2
Georgia Krohn earned the victory in the pitching circle, after pitching a complete game and recorded seven strikeouts and only allowing one earned run.

Trailing by one heading into the top of the third,
Jessica James led off the inning with a walk.
Kaydence Kinder drew a walk during her plate appearance to put runners in first and second with no outs.
Rylee Cain laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third.
Kaela Persico the next at-bat launched a three RBI homer over the left center wall to put Briar Cliff up 3-1.

In the top of the sixth,
Autumn Soter reached base on an error.
Sydney Ebel with one out drew a walk to move Soter into scoring position.
Karina Cupples recorded a infield single to load the bases up.
Jessica James capitalized on the opportunity and recorded a three RBI triple to increase The Cliff's lead to 7-1.

The Chargers added three runs in the top of the seventh, with Ebel recording a RBI single followed by James' two RBI double to put the Chargers up 10-1.

James finished the contest going two-for-four at the plate with five RBIs and scored two runs. She also drew a walk.
Kylie Wilhelms and Ebel both recorded two hits.

Game 2 vs Saint Mary (KS), L, 5-1
The Chargers gave up one run in the top of the first, but quickly responded with a run of their own in the next half-inning.
James led the inning off with a single followed and advanced to second with two outs. Wilhelms drew a walk to set up an RBI opportunity for Persico. Persico recorded a RBI double to left center field to tie the game.
In the bottom of the second, the Chargers had runners in scoring position with two outs and looked to even the score but were unable to capitalize and the Spires clung to a 2-1 lead.

BCU looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh as Cupples recorded a single with one out. James recorded a single to put runners on first and second. The Spires were able to escape the jam and preserve the win.

James finished two-for-four at the plate and scored a run in the contest. Cupples recorded two hits in the matchup.
Kenadee Loew went one-for-three with a double in the contest.

The Chargers move to 2-6 on the season, and will travel to Shawknee, Kansas to take on Peru State and Graceland Friday February 28
th. The contest against Peru State is slated for 1:30 p.m. and the contest against Graceland is scheduled for 4 p.m.
