Women's Track and Field

BRIAR CLIFF SEES RECORDS FALL

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Freshman Devonda Sands and senior Hope Wagner set school records as the Briar Cliff University women's outdoor track & field team closed out the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships.

The meet went down to the wire as Concordia (Neb.) edged Doane by five points (209.5 to 204.5) for the title.  Rounding out the top five were Dordt (3rd – 118.5 points), Hastings (4th – 77.5 points) and Northwestern (Iowa) (5th – 53 points).

The Chargers scored six points to place 12th.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Sands ran 14.78 to finish sixth.  That broke the school record of 14.83 she ran earlier in the season.

In the shot put, Wagner was sixth with a toss of 44 feet, 10.25 inches.  That hit the NAIA "A" cut and tied the school record she set earlier in the year.

In the 400 hurdles, freshman Sophie Ruden ran 1:11.22 and Sands clocked a 1:17.01.  Both times are among the top 10 in school history.

Briar Cliff keeps to the road, Friday, May 10 to compete at the Concordia Twilight.  The meet is in Seward, Neb.
