ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Briar Cliff University men's & women's outdoor track & field team finished Day 1 of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship.
On the men's side, Concordia (Neb.) scored 70 points and leads by 29 over Northwestern (Iowa). Rounding out the top five are Dordt (3rd – 40 points), Doane (4th – 31 points) and Midland (5th – 29 points).
Freshman Daron Jackson scored in the long jump, finishing eighth (21 feet, nine inches).
Senior Wilton George ran 14.72 to finish third in the 110-meter hurdle pre-lims to qualify for Saturday's final. His time hit the NAIA "B" Standard.
On the women's side, Doane scored 66.5 points and leads by 20 points over Concordia (Neb.). Rounding out the top five are Dordt (3rd – 40 points), Hastings (4th – 20 points) and Midland and Morningside (5th – 13 points).
Freshman Devonda Sands ran 14.90 to place fifth in the 100 hurdle pre-lims to qualify for Saturday's final.
Briar Cliff closes out the GPAC Championships, Saturday, May 4. The meet is in Orange City, Iowa.
