The Charger baseball team dropped their doubleheader against Bethel (TN) 4-2 and 7-1 in McKenzie, Tennessee. The Cliff rallied in the bottom of the seventh, but a triple play by Bethel halted the Charger rally.
Game 1 – L, 4-2
After being shutout for six innings, the Chargers gained momentum in the top of the seventh after
Cam Riemer recorded a lead-off walk.
Diego Trujillo the next at-bat doubled, and the Cliff had runners on second and third with no outs.
Cade Marquardt hit an RBI-single, followed by
Matthew Hmielewski's RBI-single cut the Bethel lead 4-2. The offensive momentum took a turn, as the Cliff fell on a triple play.
Hmielewski went two-for-three at the plate for the Cliff.
Game 2 – L, 7-1
After giving up one run to open the game, the Chargers held Bethel scoreless for the next four innings.
Briar Cliff in the top of the sixth carded their first run following Trujillo's RBI-double with one out. Bethel would respond with an offensive flurry, scoring six runs in the next half-inning capped by a grand slam.
Jared Sitzmann went two-for-four at the plate in the contest.
Easton Cone,
Walker Moore, and Marquardt all recorded a hit in the contest.
The Chargers fall to 5-6 on the season and will return to action tomorrow to cap off their series against Bethel. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
