CHARGER BASEBALL FALLS AT DOANE

The Briar Cliff baseball team dropped a pair of GPAC contests to Doane on Saturday in Crete, Nebraska, falling 3–0 in game one and 13–4 in game two.

Game 1 vs. Doane – L, 3–0
Briar Cliff was held scoreless in the opener as Doane secured a 3–0 victory.

The Tigers broke through in the third inning, scoring twice on a double from Carter Roth and a two-RBI single from Grant Sommers. Doane added an insurance run in the fourth on an RBI single up the middle.

Nick Hays delivered a strong performance on the mound for the Chargers, tossing a complete six innings while allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five.

Offensively, Briar Cliff was limited to just two hits, with Damon Schmid and Raenan Padilla each recording a hit. The Chargers drew four walks but were unable to capitalize.

Game 2 vs. Doane – L, 13–4
Briar Cliff jumped out to an early lead in game two but couldn't contain Doane's offense in a 13–4 loss.

The Chargers struck first in the opening inning as Nico Sall launched a two-run home run to center field. Briar Cliff added runs in the third and fourth innings to stay within striking distance.

Doane responded with a big second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Sam Kwapnioski, and continued to build momentum throughout the game. The Tigers added runs in five different innings, including a late surge to pull away.

Sall led the Chargers with two RBIs, while Cade Marquardt and Schmid each drove in a run. Briar Cliff totaled seven hits in the contest, with multiple players contributing offensively.

Brendan Ward took the loss on the mound, while Doane's Nicolas Yard earned the win after allowing four runs over five innings.

Doane finished with 12 hits, led by Grant Sommers with a four-hit performance and three RBIs.

Briar Cliff returns to action Sunday March 29, hosting Concordia. Game times are set for 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
