CHARGERS GO 2-1 AGAINST BAKER

The Chargers went 2-1 against the Baker Wildcats Sunday in Baldwin City, KS. The Chargers and wildcats played three games today due to weather temperatures the previous day.

Game 1 – W, 6-3

In the first game of the series, the Charger offense exploded in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs. Rance Bryant leadoff with a single, followed by Diego Trujillo drawing a walk put runners on first and second with no outs. Walker Moore hit a two RBI-double to plate a run across. Cam Reimer followed up with a three-run shot over the left centerfield wall.

The Cliff added two more runs as Reimer and Cade Marquardt hit RBI-singles. The Wildcats late rally was stuffed by the Charger defense, as they drove in three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Reimer went two-for-four at the plate and recorded four RBIs. Bryant went two-for-four and scored two runs in game one.

Kyler Steinborn got the start on the bump for the Chargers, tossing six scoreless innings and recording seven strikeouts.

Game 2 - L 2-1

The Charger offense struggled in game two, mustering only two hits against the Wildcats pitching staff. The Chargers in the top of the sixth trailing by two looked to come back, as Reimer got on base via hit by pitch. Brayden Artzer came in to pinch run for Marquardt, and advanced to third following a single from Jared Sitzmann. Artzer would score on a wild pitch to plate the Chargers first run.

Trujillo drew two walks in the contest, while Sitzmann and Bryant were the lone Chargers to card hits. Getting the start on the bump, Cade Nelson threw four innings, recording six strikeouts, and allowing two runs on four hits.

Game 3 - W 5-3

The Charger bats caught fire in the first half of the contest, as Reimer got the scoring started with an RBI-double. With two outs, Zakk Evers singled through the left side to put runners on first and second. Bryant singled to left center to drive Logan Barboa. Moore followed up with an RBI-single of his own. Bryant would score on a wild pitch to give BCU a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth and clinging on to a one run lead, Trujillo would score an insurance run to put the lead to two.

Carter Schorg got the win on the bump, tossing six innings and struck out six batters.

The Chargers improve to 4-2 on the season, and will host the Bellevue Bruins for a three-game series next Saturday at Sisters of St. Francis field. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
