CHARGERS COMPETE AT VIKING CLASSIC, DRAKE RELAYS

The Briar Cliff track and field teams competed at the Grand View Viking Classic and the Drake Relays Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.
 
The Chargers 4x100 team of Dominic Archer, Brayden Ingraham, Tulsa Janish and Joshua Miller raced at the Blue Oval, placing 12th in the College division with a time of 41.77 seconds. Hope Wagner also qualified for the Drake Relays in the women's shot put but did not compete today.
 
BC's 4x100 squad also competed at the Viking Classic, posting a time of 42.17 seconds. TyJana Gardner, Kiana Vereen, Izzy Sayler and Pluma Pross ran a time of 51.96 seconds in the women's 4x100 and also placed second.  
 
Sayler's best leap in the triple jump was good for a second-place finish at 10.75 meters.
 
Pross and Lexi Weber went five-six in the women's 5000-meter with times of 22:00.23 and 23:01.94. Juan Celio paced the Charger men in the event, posting a time of 17:27.48 seconds, and was followed by Moises Lupercio's time of 19:23.21.
 
The men's 400 was highlighted by Osiel Ochoa who ran a time of 50.62 for third place, while Jalen Cook was fifth at 51.11 seconds. Pross and Vereen took seventh and eighth with times of 1:02.82 and 1:03.28, respectively.
 
Miller placed second in the men's 100m at 11.16 seconds and was trailed by Janish's mark of 11.33 seconds. Archer was seventh in the 100 at 22.42, while Ochoa was right behind in eighth at 22.53 seconds.
 
"It was a very busy week for track, we had a great meet at Mount Marty mid-week with the 4x100 hitting a national standard running 41.74," said head coach Scott Barnes. "Isabel Sayler had a huge outdoor PR in the triple jump of 11.17 as well as Juan Celio running a PR of 17:27 in the 5k. The 4x100 had a great showing at Drake today placing 12th of 32 teams in the college division. The meet at Grandview today was also productive. Pluma pross had a great race as well as Osiel Ochoa running a personal best of 50.6 in the 400. Now with a few events qualified for nationals and things coming together we look forward to GPAC at Dordt."
 
The Chargers are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the GPAC Championships in Sioux Center, Iowa.
