CHARGERS BATTLE COLD, WINDY CONDITIONS AT RED RAIDER INVITE

During a cold and windy day, the Briar Cliff track and field teams finished out day two of the Red Raider Invite Saturday in Orange City, Iowa.
 
"With the weather cold and windy, we had a pretty successful day," said assistant coach Chandler Cork." Days like today are rough to run in, but we faced it and got better. Still ended up with PRs from a couple of athletes today and some were very close to their PRs. Juan Celio took 5th in the 3000m steeplechase and took a whole minute off of his time from the last time he ran that race. The 4x100 men's team outlasted all teams and took 1st and the 4x100 women took 2nd behind Buena Vista.
 
Robert Amaro nabbed a first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.82, while Osiel Ochoa took seventh at 2:11.49 and Jalen Cook was 11th.
 
The men's 4x100 team was made up of Dominic Archer, Brayden Ingraham, Tulsa Janish and Joshua Miller and finished first with a time of 42.45 seconds. They beat out Northern State by 0.25 seconds.

Janish just missed first place in the 200m, trailing Buena Vista's John Jeanisse by 0.06 seconds for a second-place finish at 22.37 seconds. Ingraham took third in the event with a time of 22.67 seconds, while Carter Mathews was 13th at 25 seconds.
 
Miller was fourth in the 100m at 10.96 seconds, followed by Janish at 11.11 seconds. Celio ran a 17:29.88 in the 5000m for sixth place, while his teammates Matthews, Kenny Nolan and Moises Lupercio finished ninth, 10th and 11th. Celio also competed in the 3000m steeplechase and was fifth at 11:16.01.
 
In the field events, Muluken Wempe was ninth in the long jump at 4.28m and Dante Jones was 16th in the discus at 36.16m.
 
Hope Wagner highlighted the women's side of the events by hitting the 'A' standard in the shot put. Wagner placed first in the event and had a mark of 13.90m. Wagner finished top-10 in the discus with a throw of 35.67m which was good for ninth.
 
TyJana Gardner, Kiana Vereen, Isabel Sayler and Pluma Pross made up the 4x100 team that was second with a time of 53.05 seconds. Isabel Sayler finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.50m.
 
Vereen finished fourth in the 100m dash, followed by Gardner and Taylor Kinner's sixth and seventh place finishes, respectively. Pross was top-eight in the 5000m with a time of 21:19.87.
 
Wagner and the men's 4x100 team's will represent the Cliff at the Drake Relays next weekend, while the rest of the Chargers will be at the Viking Classic in Des Moines, Iowa.
