Ben Jefferies added two more conference titles to his resume Saturday evening at the GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Crete, Nebraska. Jefferies took first place in the 200 and 400-meter races. In total, the Chargers had seven individuals and two relay teams placed top-eight.
Jefferies defended his outdoor 400 title with a 47.40 second race, winning by .24 seconds over second place. He set a new program record in the 200 with a time of 21.02 seconds, besting Robert Iron Shell's mark by .04 seconds. Jefferies was the GPAC champion in both events during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Isabel Sayler placed fifth in the triple jump with her best jump of 10.81 meters. Hope Wagner was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 12.14 meters.
Ryan Kotey secured sixth place finishes in both the 200 and 400 with times of 21.99 and 48.80, respectively. Paxon Fleming's time of 54.86 in the 400 hurdles was good for sixth place and he took eighth in the 110 hurdles at 15.32 seconds.
Brynden Kinnaman took eighth in the shot put at 14.24 meters. Damond Anderson's jump of 13.58 meters was good for an eighth-place finish. Robert Amaro was ninth in the 1500 meters at 4:10.55 seconds.
The 4x100 team of Dominic Archer, Jefferies, Tulsa Janish and Kotey finished third in 41.48 seconds. BC's 4x400 team took eighth at 3:27.70 and was made up of Fleming, Janish, Osiel Ochoa and Archer.
Ochoa ran a 52.21 400, while Ramon Harkins and Janish finished in 52.49 and 52.83, respectively.
"Shout out to Brynden, in potentially his last meet he threw a lifetime best and was all-conference," said head coach Scott Barnes. "Hope threw a new career best in the discus. Damond and Isabel made big PR's in the triple jump. Ryan set a new PR in the 400 and ran a great race in the 200. Ben had another great day for us, winning both his events and setting a new GPAC meet record and school record in the 200. The 4x100 set the 'A' standard and will move up the national rankings. Harkins set a new PR in the 400 and ran a great race. We had great performances all around, but it shows how tough our conference is top-to-bottom."
The Chargers will head to Seward, Nebraska for the Concordia Twilight Meet on May 13 before turning their attention to the NAIA National Championship Meet in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 25-27.
