The Briar Cliff track and field team delivered a series of strong performances Friday at the Red Raider Open.
Devondra Sands highlighted the day with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 14.63 seconds. She also competed in the 200 meters, posting a time of 27.77 seconds.
Kristen Mika recorded a personal-best mark of 38.91 meters in the hammer throw and added a 14th-place finish in the discus at 32.93 meters.
Blake Hogencamp also reached a personal best in the discus with a throw of 40.31 meters, finishing 10th. He added a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.46 meters.
On the track, Jayson Rucker turned in a strong showing with a runner-up finish in the 200 meters (24.28 seconds) and a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters (52.89 seconds).
David Utsi Grinde placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 25.09 seconds, while Colin Rhynalds finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles and ninth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Connor Antonino added a personal-best performance in the javelin with a throw of 35.09 meters.
The Chargers return to action April 23–25 in Des Moines, Iowa, competing in the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open.
