The Charger track and field teams wrapped up the Sioux City Relays Saturday at Elwood Olsen Stadium. Day two was highlighted by a first-place finish, and NAIA 'B' standard time from the men's 4x100 team.
"The Sioux City Relays was a great success for us," said head coach
Scott Barnes. "The throws group was great today, with Hope and Lexus taking third while Lakey coming very close to a personal best."
The Charger 4x100 team composed of
Dominic Archer,
Ben Jefferies,
Tulsa Janish and
Ryan Kotey hit the NAIA 'B' standard in their 41.70 second first place relay.Â
"After three years of just missing the national qualifying standard, the 4x100 team hit the 'B' standard," said Barnes. "
Wilton George has been back and fourth with a hamstring and made a tough decision to take himself out of the relay this week, and worried it would hold the team back. Tulsa stepped up with 40 minutes to go before the race and ran an absolutely heroic leg in the relay which led to a national meet birth."
After qualifying for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles yesterday,
Paxon Fleming improved his time by .39 seconds to place second today. Fleming set a new PR in the race, besting his time of 15.34 set at the Dordt Invite.Â
Dominic Archer advanced to the finals in the 100m after posting the seventh fastest time in yesterday's prelims. He improved his time by .22 seconds, setting a new PR in the finals and placed third with a time of 10.98.Â
The men's 4x400 team made up of Archer, Fleming,
Tulsa Janish and
Osiel Ochoa placed third with a time of 3:25.03.
Moises Lupercio was seventh in the 5000m run with a time of 18:30.94. Rob Amaro was 15th in the 1500m, crossing the finish line in 4:14.28.
"The 4x400 squad found some life today with 3:25 time, despite being just 15 minutes after Dominic and Tulsa ran in the 4x100," noted Barnes.
Damond Anderson's leap of 5.80m in the long jump was good was a seventh-place finish.
Lakey Martin was 12th in the shot put with a throw of 36.49m, while
Brynden Kinnaman was 14th at 35.68m.Â
Lexus Mosbrucker's best throw of 37.80m was good for a third-place finish in the javelin.
Hope Wagner was third in the shot put at 13.27m, while Megan Lamparek was 18th at 10.00m.
"Now with five events in for nationals, we can really dial down and see what we need to focus on to pad this list of potential point scorers for nationals as well as GPAC," said Barnes.
The Chargers are back in action next Wednesday and Thursday for the Red Raider Open in Orange City, Iowa.Â
