The BC track and field team had two athletes compete in the first day of the South Dakota Challenge in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Paxon Fleming ran in the 400-meter hurdles while
Caleb Sassman ran in the 1500-meter run.
Fleming placed seventh overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.41 seconds, two tenths of a second off his personal best. Sassman finished the 1500-meter run in 5:02.57.
"With the two competitors we had today in Caleb and Paxon we saw huge improvements. We had a goal for Caleb and he absolutely crushed it," said assistant coach
Chandler Cork. "Paxon has been very consistent in his races and it's only a matter of time before he breaks past that barrier!"
A host of Chargers will compete in the 200-meter dash on day two.
Pluma Pross,
Lexi Weber, and
Kiana Vereen will represent the women's team, while
Ben Jefferies,
Ryan Kotey,
Tulsa Janish,
Osiel Ochoa, Robert Breen,
Devin Todd, and
Francisco Moreno will represent the men's team.
Lexus Mosbrucker will be the lone Charger to compete in the javelin tomorrow.
