Pair of Chargers take first at Wayne State Invite

A day after Lexus Mosbrucker took first place in the javelin at the Wayne State Invite, Ben Jefferies and Paxon Fleming followed with a pair of first place finishes Saturday in Wayne, Nebraska.

"Today was a great first meet. Most of our performances were in the ball park with our best indoor time, which with the elements is a great start," said head coach Scott Barnes. "Paxton had a great 400 hurdles, while Izzy, Hope and Ariyah all had strong performances. Dom running a 52 in the 400 with the wind is an impressive performance and our sprint crew ran very tough! Ben and Ryan both started off with solid races and that's what you hope for in a first meet when it's cold and windy. We look to build off this and do big things at Dordt in a week!"

After defending his indoor 400-meter national championship, Ben Jefferies kicked off his outdoor season with two first place finishes in the 100 and 200. He ran the 100 in 10.71 seconds and the 200 in 21.69 seconds.

Paxon Fleming led the way in the 400-meter hurdles taking first place with a time of 58.38 seconds. Wilton George took second in the event at 1:02.63.

Ryan Kotey finished just behind Jefferies in both events, placing second in the 100 with a time of 11.10 and third in the 200 at 22.50 seconds. Dominic Archer took a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.85 and was fourth in the 100 at 11.38, just .03 seconds off third. Robert Amaro's time of 2:01.60 in the 800-meter was good for a third-place finish and placed behind Mason Sindelar (South Dakota) and Gabe Peitz (Wayne State).

Damond Anderson led the Chargers in the field events with a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.02m. Byrnden Kinnaman took tenth in the shot put with a throw of 13.86m.

Isabel Sayler finished fourth behind three Wayne State athletes with a leap of 10.32 meters. Hope Wagner took eighth in the shot put at 12.56m.

Ariyah Williams finished seventh in the 100m at 14.09. Pluma Pross finished sixth in the 200 at 30.50. Megan Lamparek and Anne Horstman finished 16th and 17th in the discus throw, respectively.

The Chargers will head to Sioux Center, Iowa next Saturday for the Dordt Invite.
