The Charger track team had a busy day at the Mount Marty Last Chance Meet, with two Chargers taking first and plenty placing in their respective events. The meet was headlined by
Ryan Kotey and
Robert Amaro who both took first in their respective events on the day.
"We had a great meet today an are back on track after a tough meet last week," said head coach
Scott Barnes. "Now we will look to rest up and put together a good GPAC meet before nationals."
Robert Amaro won the 800-meter event with a time of 1:57.95, just missing the NAIA 'B' standard of 1:55.25. He was almost five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Amaro also placed second in the 600-meter run finishing in 1:25.40.
Ryan Kotey finished first in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 51.19 seconds.
Ben Jefferies placed second in the event at 51.86.
Paxon Fleming came in second in the 60-meter hurdles finishing in 8.50s, .02 off of the first-place finisher. Fleming's time was just .12 seconds off of the NAIA 'B' standard.
Dominic Archer finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.99s. Archer moved into the top five among GPAC athletes in the 60m.
The 4x400 men's relay team of
Dominic Archer, Kotey,
Paxon Fleming, and Jefferies won their head-to-head matchup against Dakota Wesleyan with a new season best time of 3:25.70.
On the women's side,
Isabel Sayler placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.66m.
Kiana Vereen finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with her time of 8.18.
Jasmine Joseph was right behind Vereen, placing seventh in 8.22 seconds. Joesph and Vereen finished eighth and ninth in the 200m with times of 27.64 and 28.33, respectively.
The Chargers will be back in action February 19 in Crete, Nebraska for the GPAC indoor Championships.
