The Briar Cliff indoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the CUNE Bulldog Early Bird Meet in Seward, Nebraska. Five Chargers placed in the top-three in the meet, with both
Robert Amaro and
Hope Wagner beating out the competition in the 800m and shot put, respectively.
"It was a very good meet for us," said assistant coach Chandler Cork. "I preached today to go out and COMPETE, COMPETE, COMPETE and our athletes had some of their best competitions today. We have our first national qualifier of the year in
Hope Wagner with a B standard throw. Time for a refreshing break and back to business after winter break with our next meet at the Mount Marty Opener!"
As the lone Charger in the 800m,
Robert Amaro posted a 2:00.41 to take first place. Amaro also placed fifth in the 600m with a time of 1:24.51. Teammate
Brian Sosa followed Amaro in the 600m and posted 1:31.10, good for ninth place.
In the 400m,
Jalen Cook placed third with a time of 51.04.
Osiel Ochoa finished with 52.47, good for seventh place in the competition.
Carter Matthews placed in the top three in the one mile, pacing the Cliff with 4:47.43. Teammate
Juan Celio finished in sixth place in the mile, clocking in at 4:53.74. In the triple jump,
Damond Anderson's best jump was a 13.33m, good for sixth place.
Hope Wagner beat out the competition in the shot put and hit the NAIA 'B' Standard, with her best throw of 13.17m. In the triple jump,
Isabel Sayler posted a 10.87m and finished second in the competition.
Pluma Pross paced the Chargers and finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:37.78.
Lenikei Burns finished in sixth place, finishing at 2:57.17. In the one mile, two Chargers placed in the top ten, with
Lexi Weber getting 6:50.87 (9th) and
Maria Russell getting 6:53.73 (10th).
The Chargers have a month-long break from action and return Saturday, January 14th at the Mount Marty Opener in Yankton, South Dakota.
