The Charger track and field team competed in the Mount Marty Invite Saturday afternoon in Yankton, South Dakota. The day was highlighted by
Wilton George's school record tying time in the 60-meter hurdles, while
Ryan Kotey and
Hope Wagner set national qualifying times and throws in their respective events.
"Today we took the next step as a program," said head coach
Scott Barnes. "The men, after getting ranked in the top 25m did a great job showing it's where we belong and very well can work up the ladder."
George placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.11 seconds, tying the BC school record. George also took first place in 60 meter dash in 6.91 seconds.
Ryan Kotey placed second in the 400-meter dash and hit the 'B' standard with a time of 49.99. Ben Jeffries took first place in the 200-meter dash at 21.97 seconds.
Paxon Fleming finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.61. Damon Anderson tied for third in the high jump at 1.90m.
Dominic Archer's time of 23.21 in the 200m was good for a seventh place finish.
On the women's side,
Hope Wagner qualified for nationals with her shot put of 13.24m and was good for a second place finish.
Isabel Sayler set a new personal best in the triple jump, placing second with a jump of 10.56m.
Jasmine Joseph took eighth in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 8.28 seconds.
The Chargers will be back in action at the Concordia University Classic next Friday in Seward, Nebraska.
