Cliff goes 1-1 on first day of Park University Tournament

The BC men's volleyball team took part in two three-set sweeps Friday, going 1-1 at the Park University Tournament in Parkville, Missouri. The Cliff opened the day beating Park – Gilbert 25-16, 27-25, 25-16 before falling to RV Missouri Valley 25-23, 25-23, 25-20. 

The Chargers dominated sets one and three in the team's first match of the day, but had to battle in the second set against the Park Buccaneers, a team in its first season of competition. The teams battled through 15 before Briar Cliff won in extra points. 

Riley Owen led the Cliff with 11 kills while Nathaniel Johnson added 10. Kimo Rosa had the best swinging percentage of the Charger attack with four kills and one error on seven attacks (.429) and had a team-high five blocks. Hunter Miller dished out 16 assists and Timothy Payan Jr. added 15. 

The Chargers hit .244 in the contest and held the Buccaneers to just .086. 

The second match of the day saw the Cliff on the other end of a sweep. Although the Chargers were able to keep each set close, they could not manage to take one from the Vikings. 

Brandon Oswald and Riley Owen each contributed 12 kills to the Cliff's cause and Owen led the team with a swing rate of .300. BC's three setters split time on the floor, led by Miller with 20 assists. Kyle Cox added 10 helpers and Payan had three. 

Briar Cliff will take on Mount Mercy Saturday in a 3 p.m. contest to finish out the tournament.
