Box Score The Briar Cliff men's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the University of Jamestown on the road in North Dakota.
The Chargers fell in the opening set of the match, 25-12 to the Jimmies. Charger attackers were plagued with errors during the set compared to Jamestown hitting a .444 efficiency. Jamestown also had 11 kills in the set, while BCU had just five. "Sometimes when it rains it pours," commented Head Coach Trevor Schirman.
The Chargers tried to get something going in set two but could only tie the score twice with a kill by Daniel Borsi and a block by Riley Owen, and eventually only lead once after a couple of Jimmie errors and a kill by Brandon Oswald. Set two was close throughout and had nine ties. Jamestown would prevail and take the second set 25-20 to lead two sets to none.
In set three, Jamestown and the Cliff traded points throughout the match and tied the score 19 times. Set three was a barn burner and in the end Jamestown ended up taking the third set by a final of 29-27.
The story of the match was offensive attack efficiency, Jamestown kept their errors to a minimum throughout the match while the Cliff hitters had a high amount of errors leading them to a low attack efficiency in the end. Coach Schirman added, "You are not going to win many games when there is a .300 differential in offensive efficiency. Unforced hitting errors killed us tonight while Jamestown hit lights out."
Borsi would lead the the Chargers in attack efficiency hitting a .350 for the match. Freshmen setters Hunter Miller and Timothy Payan Jr. each dished out 11 assists and Noah Marasco-Ayau contributed 12 digs.
The loss puts the Chargers at 12-5 overall. Briar Cliff will follow up their long road trip with a match at home tomorrow (Friday) night against Lincoln College at 7:00pm in the Newman Flanagan Center on the BCU Campus.
