The Briar Cliff University men's volleyball program picked up another win in straight sets on Friday night during a road trip to William Penn University.
The Chargers now move to 11-4 overall on the season while the Statesmen fall to 2-13 overall. As a team, BCU finished the day hitting .379 while holding their opponent just to .115. That hitting percentage was largely backed by the stellar serve receive skills of the Charger unit.
"The key to tonight's victory was a very strong serve receive game that led to a very efficient and well-balanced offense. Because of our great passing our setters were able to stick to the game plan and dictate our offense to our opponent." commented Head Coach Trevor Schirman.
Offensively, the program was buoyed by a pair of standout performances on the pins of the net. Brandon Oswald led all attackers on the evening after throwing down 15 kills while boasting a .333 hitting percentage. Riley Owen followed with 12 kills while adding 8 digs from the back row. Kimo Rosa rounded out the top offensive performers on the night after slamming 8 kills on 10 attempts (.800) and contributing two service aces.
Freshman Hunter Miller paced the offense at 17 total assists while Kyle Cox added 16 assists on the night. Defensively, libero Noah Marasco-Ayau contributed 9 digs and also tallied 2 assists.
Despite being a first year program, the Statesmen have put up an excellent fight during both contests with the Charger netters. Libero Pedro Maciel tallied 15 defensive digs on the night. Offensively, the Statesmen were led by CJ Rettig with nine kills. "Hats off to William Penn. They are another strong first year program with an exciting future, right here in Iowa," praised Schirman.
The Chargers will return to action tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon as they continue their road-trip by heading to Lamoni, Iowa to take on Graceland University. Match time is set for 1:00pm.
