Briar Cliff made quick work of Dordt in men's volleyball action Tuesday night in the Newman Flanagan Center. The Chargers won 3-0 with set scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-17.
"It was a solid win against an improved Dordt squad," said BC head coachÂ
Trevor Schirman. "We still need to work on our consistency and the mental aspects of the game. Once we tighten up that part of the game, good things will happen."
The Chargers were led on the attack byÂ
Riley Owen with 13 kills.Â
Brandon Oswald also had a double-digit kill total with 11 to go with eight digs, one shy of the team high of nine byÂ
Noah Marasco-Ayau.
Kimo Rosa was the most efficient attacker for the Blue and Gold as he tallied seven kills on 13 attacks with no errors for a hit rate of .538.
As a team, Briar Cliff finished with an attack percentage of .305 while holding Dordt to .131. Dordt's attack was led by Garret VanderZee with 12 of his team's 26's kills.
The Blue and Gold outblocked the Defenders 10-4, led by Rosa with five denials. Rosa was one of only two players in the match to record a solo block as he and teammateÂ
Ivan Trifunovic each had one.
Kyle Cox orchestrated the offense and finished with 35 assists.Â
Hunter Miller came in late in set three to chip in with three assists for the Cliff. Dordt's setter Tyler Postma finished with 22 shares on the night.
Dordt had some issues at the service line with 12 serving errors to one ace by VanderZee. Briar Cliff had three aces coming from Cox, Oswald and Rosa while totaling nine service errors.
With the win, Briar Cliff remained unbeaten in conference play at 2-0 in the AMGPKCAC as the Chargers are now 4-2 overall. Dordt dropped to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in league competition.
The Chargers will hit the road this weekend for nonconference action at the Park University Tournament in Parkville, Mo. Briar Cliff is slated to take on Park University - Gilbert at 2 p.m. Friday with another match that night against Missouri Valley. The Chargers face Mount Mercy on Saturday before making their way back home.
