CELEBRATING NATIONAL GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY AT BRIAR CLIFF

National Girls & Women in Sports Day is celebrated annually during the first week of February, and on February 4, 2026, we proudly recognize the 39th anniversary of honoring the achievements of women and girls in sports. At Briar Cliff University, this day is about more than celebration, it's about legacy, opportunity, and continued progress.

Briar Cliff currently offers 12 women's sports on campus, with recent additions of cheer, dance, and women's bowling. Since 1969 when women's athletics began at BCU, the women's athletic teams have acquired 41 GPAC titles and 39 NAIA appearances.

We honor the women who came before us, the former Chargers whose dedication, courage, and perseverance helped build the foundation of BCU athletics. Their commitment to competition, and leadership opened doors and created opportunities for today's women and girls to participate, excel, and belong in college athletics.

Because of those who paved the way, today's Chargers step onto the court, field, and track with pride, carrying forward a legacy built on opportunity and empowerment. On this National Girls & Women in Sports Day, we celebrate the past, uplift the present, and commit to a future where women and girls in sports continue to thrive.
