CHARGERS OUTLAST MUSTANGS IN OVERTIME VICTORY

The RV Briar Cliff women's basketball team outlasted the Morningside Mustangs in an overtime thriller, pulling away late to secure a 105–99 road victory Saturday afternoon in Sioux City. 

The Chargers and the Mustangs traded punches early, with BCU holding a slim 18–17 advantage after the opening quarter. The Mustangs responded in the second, using a strong shooting stretch to take a 50–40 lead into halftime.

Briar Cliff regrouped after the break and chipped away at the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring Morningside 24–17 to cut the margin to 50–47 heading into the final period. The Chargers continued to apply pressure in the fourth, eventually forcing overtime after the teams were deadlocked at 92–92 at the end of regulation.

In the extra period, BCU took control on both ends of the floor, scoring 13 points while holding Morningside to seven to close out the six-point win.

Mallie McNair led all scorers, pouring in a season-best 33 points, along with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Brooklyn Heineman followed with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists for a double-double. Kinzee Hinders added 16 points and five rebounds off the bench. Abby Lee chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds, and Kenna Mongan finished with 10 points and six assists.

As a team, Briar Cliff shot 40.7 percent from the field, knocked down 10 three-pointers, and went 29-of-36 from the free-throw line while forcing 19 turnovers and scoring 28 points off those miscues. 

With the win, the Chargers finish the regular season 19–9 overall and 13–9 in conference. They return to action on Wednesday, February 25, for the first round of the GPAC tournament, heading to Seward, NE, to take on the Concordia Bulldogs. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
