The Charger baseball team dropped their doubleheader against the visiting Midland Warriors Saturday at the Bishop Mueller Complex in Sioux City, Iowa.

Game one – L, 4-6 (8 innings)

The Chargers struck first in the bottom of the first, a lead off single from
Diego Trujillo followed by a double from
Rance Bryant put runners in scoring position with no outs.
Nico Sall put the ball in play and Trujillo carded the game's first run.
Â
Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third, Trujillo again led off the inning with a single to right field. Trujillo swiped second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Bryant drew a walk on a wild pitch and Trujillo scored to cut the lead to one. With the bases loaded, a deep sac fly from
Cam Riemer drove in Bryant to tie the game 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth and trailing by a run, Sall found the left field gap for a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A ground ball by
Cade Marquardt allowed Sall to score to tie the game.

Heading into extra innings, the Warriors in the top of the eighth scored two runs to take a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Chargers loaded the bases after
Connor Neubeck launched a single off the right field wall. The Warriors would strand the runners, recording the final two outs to preserve the victory.

Trujillo went three-for-five at the plate and scored two runs in the contest.

Game two – L, 0-1
In the effort,
Nick Hays pitched a complete game, tossing all seven innings and allowed just one run across four hits while striking out three. Hays began the game tossing three shutout innings and not allowing a single base runner.

The Warriors scored the contest's only run in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth,
Jake Chronic drew a walk and stole second base to reach scoring position. Midland would strand Chronic at second to hold the slim advantage.

Down to their final three outs,
Raenan Padilla was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the seventh.
Grant Devecsery singled to left field to place runners at first and second with two outs. The Warriors the next at-bat rolled a double play to hang on for the win. Devecsery went three-for-two at the dish.

The Chargers fall to 12-17 (5-9 GPAC) and will travel to Fremont, Nebraska to conclude the four-game series against the Warriors. Game one is slated for 1 p.m. with game two following shortly after.
