The Charger softball team battled against cross-town rival Morningside Saturday at Hubbard Park.

Game one – L, 0-1
Â
Skylar Bainter in the effort pitched a complete game allowing just three hits while recording three strikeouts. Bainter began the game tossing five scoreless innings.

In the top of the sixth, a triple from the Mustangs led to a RBI single the next at-bat to card the contest's first run of the game.

The Chargers in the bottom of the sixth looked to answer following a lead off single from
Sydney Ebel.
Jessica James laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Ebel to second. The Mustangs would strand Ebel on second, recording the final two outs in the inning.

After retiring the side in order in the top of the seventh,
Kenadee Loew reach base after being struck by a pitch with two outs to represent the game tying run. The Mustangs forced a pop fly to take the slim victory.

Kaydence Kinder, Loew, James, and Ebel each recorded a hit in the contest.

Game two – L, 2-4
Â
The Mustangs would score in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the sixth the Mustangs would card three more runs to extend their lead to four.

The Chargers battled back in the bottom of the sixth, with a lead off walk from
Rylee Cain. Cain would advance to second on a passed ball. With one out,
Kaela Persico hit a triple to the left center field gap to put the Chargers on the board. With runners at the corners,
Georgia Krohn hit a sac fly to deep right field to drive in Persico and cut the lead to two. With runners at first and second with two outs, Ebel drew a walk to load up the bases. The Mustangs escaped the jam and left three runners on base.

In the bottom of the seventh, back-to-back singles from
Karina Cupples and Cain put the Chargers in scoring position with no outs. Morningside would retire the next three batters to take game two.

Persico went three-for-four at the plate with a RBI and a run scored.

The Chargers slide to 8-24 (2-14 GPAC)Â will return to Hubbard Park this Wednesday, as they host the Warriors of Midland. Game one is slated for 3 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
