The Briar Cliff softball team dropped game two of Saturday's halted game against the RV Dordt Defenders, falling 8–5.
Dordt came out quickly in the opening inning, taking an early lead after Edwards drew a bases-loaded walk and Grissom followed with a three-run double to put the Defenders ahead 4–0.
The Defenders added another run in the second inning on a double play before extending the lead again in the third on an RBI single from Schneider, building a 6–2 advantage.
Briar Cliff continued to battle offensively, with two back-to-back doubles in the seventh inning, but couldn't close the gap.
Aubrey White took the loss in the circle after allowing five runs in the opening inning.
Joliana Mancha provided strong relief, working four innings while allowing three runs on four hits and striking out two.
Leah Montes and
Elizabeth Austin paced the Chargers offensively, each collecting two hits while batting back-to-back in the lineup. Austin led Briar Cliff with two RBIs, while Briar Cliff showed patience at the plate with seven walks.
Sydney Ebel and Montes each drew two free passes, and the Chargers also turned a double play defensively.
Dordt was led by Grissom, who drove in four runs and finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Kreuz, DeShaw, and Grissom each recorded two hits, while the Defenders also played error-free defense.
Briar Cliff returns to action this Wednesday, heading back to Sioux Center, IA to take on Dordt again for the GPAC tournament. First Pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
This will mark the Chargers first appearance since the 2023 season and first under Head Coach
TJ Eadus.
