BC FALLS TO MVC, RIEMER GRAND SLAM LEADS CHARGERS PAST SPIRES

The Charger baseball team split their doubleheader Saturday afternoon, dropping their first game against Missouri Valley College before mounting a comeback against Saint Mary's in their second game.
 
Game 1 vs Missouri Valley – L, 2-5
 
The Vikings quickly took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. In the top of the third, Rance Bryant led the inning off with a infield single. Diego Trujillo singled to right field and Bryant moved to third. Nico Sall was able to put the ball in play, and drove in Bryant on a RBI fielder's choice.
 
The Vikings added to their lead, scoring two runs in the next half inning to take a 5-1 lead. In the top of the sixth, Trujillo recorded a one-out double to center field to setup Sall's RBI double to cut the lead to three.
 
Cam Riemer and Jake Chronic both recorded a hit in the contest. Carter Schorg tossed five innings and allowed just three earned runs on nine hits while striking out six.
 
Game 2 vs Saint Mary's – W, 10-9
 
With one out in the top of the first, Bryant launched one over the fence to give Briar Cliff a 1-0 lead early. The Spires quickly responded with four runs of their own to take a 4-1 lead. Heading into the top of the sixth, BCU trailed 1-8.
 
The Chargers offense got hot, and poured in five runs to cut the deficit to 6-8. Sall launched a two-run home run to start the scoring. The Spires committed two errors that resulted in three runs.
 
The Spires scored on run with a bases loaded walk. In the top of the seventh, Trujillo advanced on an error and reached second base. Bryant singled to center field to put runners at the corners. Cade Marquardt was hit by a pitch and the Chargers quickly loaded the bases.
 
Riemer launched a grand slam to give the Chargers a one-run lead.
 
Bryant pitched the final two innings and took the win on the mound. He recorded four strikeouts and allowed just two hits. He went two-for-four with a RBI and scored two runs.
 
The Chargers move to 6-7 on the season, and will play Saint Mary's tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. and Missouri Valley College at 1 p.m.
