The Charger baseball team recorded 18 hits en route to a 12-9 victory over Ottawa University Arizona Monday evening in Surprise, Arizona.

The Spirit carded two runs in the first two innings to take an early lead. BCU in the top of the third poured in seven runs to take a 7-2 lead.
Nico Sall got the scoring started with a two RBI double.
Cade Marquardt and
Cam Riemer recorded RBI doubles to add to the scoring. An RBI single from
Cy Patterson followed by a bases clearing triple by
Damon Schmid capped off the scoring.

In the top of the fourth, BCU added two more runs courtesy of RBI singles from
Diego Trujillo and
Raenan Padilla.

Leading 9-5 heading into the top of the seventh, a three RBI triple from Rance Bryan extended the lead to 12-5. The Spirit in the bottom of the eighth scored four runs to trail by three heading into the ninth inning.

The Chargers in the ninth retired the side to preserve the victory.

Marquardt went three-for-five with two RBIs and scored two runs in the contest. Patterson finished three-for-four at the plate.
Johnny Reed took the win on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts. Bryant earned the save, only allowing one earned run off two hits while striking out two in 1.2 innings of work.

The Chargers move to 5-5, and will travel to Prescott, Arizona to take on Embry Riddle. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
