The Charger softball team dropped their season opening doubleheader, falling to the Wayne State Wildcats 9-0 in game one, and 7-0 in game two.

The Wildcats struck first in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI double from Taylor Coleman.

Wayne State added eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure game one.

Karina Cupples went three-for-two at the plate while
Jessica James,
Kaydence Kinder, and
Skylar Bainter each recorded a hit.
Kylie Wilhelms and Autumn Soeter each drew two walks in the contest.

In the bottom of the second, the Chargers loaded up the bases with two outs after
Sydney Ebel and Soter drew walks. The Wildcats escaped the jam, recording a strikeout to end the inning.

Rylee Cain went one-for-three with a double in the contest.

The Cliff will return to action this Friday, as they play Dakota State and York (NE) at the Dordt ASB Dome in Sioux Center, Iowa. The matchup against Dakota State is slated for 5 p.m. while the matchup against York is set for 7 p.m.
