Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

SECOND HALF SURGE LEADS CHARGERS PAST DOANE

The Charger men's basketball team surged to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Doane 81–60 in a GPAC matchup Friday afternoon at the Newman Flanagan Center.

"I was really happy with the urgency and the intensity the guys played with tonight," said Head Coach Mark Svagera. "I thought after the first few minutes we really locked in defensively, we were able to get some stops that led to easy baskets. I liked the way we executed the game plan versus Doane's zone defense, I thought the guys really shared the ball and were patient and we got the shots we wanted to get. Blake Sindelar was great for us again tonight, i really thought it was a great team effort and it goes all the way down to the guys who played on our scout team the last couple days helping us prepare.

Blake Sindelar led the Chargers with a game-high 25 points on 9-for-11 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. He also added five assists as the Chargers shot 55 percent from the field and closed the first half with a 46–31 advantage.

Jaxson Wingert scored 15 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Dawson Mohr came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers and finish with 14 points. Colby Collison added 11 points, and Ryan Kleppe chipped in 10 as the Chargers' reserves outscored Doane's bench 28–7.

Casen Chaney paced Doane (5-3) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Justus Gardiner scored 11 points and dished out five assists, and Jack Wilson added 11 points before fouling out.

Briar Cliff won the rebounding battle 31–23 and forced 12 turnovers, converting them into 19 points. The Chargers also outscored the Tigers 40–32 in the paint and held a 12–2 advantage on the fast break.

"We're going to keep working to get better and come back ready to go Tuesday night." said Svagera.

The Cliff improve to 5-2 (2-0 GPAC) and will host the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers next Tuesday inside the Newman Flanagan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
