The Briar Cliff women's volleyball team battled tough against No. 3 Northwestern Wednesday night, but ultimately fell in straight sets inside the Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa.
Facing one of the top offenses in the GPAC, the Chargers showed grit and defensive energy throughout the match. Briar Cliff's front line turned away several Northwestern attacks early, with strong blocks from
Aubrey Hoeft and
Caton Firkins.
Firkins,
Kya Bradfield, and
Tamika Eastman led the offensive effort with four kills apiece, while Hoeft added three kills and three block assists.
Brooklyn Voss also contributed two kills and a block assist on the night.
Setters
Kylie Hart and
Reese Strouth each recorded 10 assists apiece. Hart also recorded two service aces.
Avery Beller anchored the back row with 13 digs.
Joana Neves chipped in six, and Hart added 4.
The Chargers move to 9-16 on the season and 3-11 in GPAC play. They return to action this Saturday, hosting Waldorf in the Newman Flanagan Center for Senior Day. First Serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
